Final Front Cover

Here is my final front cover.

I believe that this is the right look for my final magazine front cover, because it is so simplistic and understated it really compliments the picture and the genre of French New Wave. The colour of the strap-line 'FEW' which is in red really contrasts from the black and white image which will jump out to my target audience causing them to want to pick it up and read it.

I have changed the font to make it look less 'word documented' and far more professional. 'Peck-Still a Heart-throb?' is in a bold, softer font yet does not dominate the page. At the bottom of the page I have put 'The Best bits' in capitalised fonts to signify to the audience that it really is the best bits. I have kept everything else the same.

I think that the way I have constructed my words; 'The truth behind...' 'still a heart-throb?' really pulls in the attention of the audience making them want to know more.

I have kept the same font for the subtitle 'Marie-Elise-is in aimer ou la vie' as it is bold and clear. I believe this is the right look for the main text as it is

Final Front Cover analysis 1:

Here is a detailed analysis of a final draft of magazine. Throughout the analysis I have highlight how I have wanted to keep the magazine simplistic and understated; just like the genre of French New Wave. Although this is not the finish product, it is not far off.

MAGAZINE DRAFT 2.
In this draft I have incorporated on the magazine sub-text. I had to make the it black and white so it could be seen because of the background. The bar code is on the bottom right hand corner so it is not so prominent. Underneath the strap-line 'FEW' I have put in black small font 'Film Entertainment weekly'. In the F of 'FEW' I have put down the side 'FEWUK.COM'. I have done this because main-stream magazines have websites and it can be seen as easily accessible to the audience. I have priced the magazine at £1.90 because it is a weekly magazine and would not be priced as much as a monthly one would be.
The main reason why I have made this magazine so simple is because I feel it will get more in touch with my target audience. Unlike many commercialised magazines it does not have the effects and graphics that they may have. The reason I have done this is because my chosen target audience see themselves as the 'unconventional' and 'simplistic'. They prefer the 'old-fashion' approach than than the modern graphics because they feel out of touch. They are far more interested in the past rather than the future and have a 'nostalgic' approach to life.
I have chosen the model to look into the camera so she is engaging with the audience, I want them to feel as if she is tending to their needs and that they feel a special connection with her. They want to know more about her world because they are completely enticed by her sullen, nonchalant look of 'cool'.
I have kept the cigarette in the picture, not for promotion, but to use as an icon for French New Wave.
Adding onto this I have put the text in black and white in order for it to not dominate the main image and magazine title. I think it is key to keep it as simple as possible because then it will mirror the likes of the 60's magazine front covers where everything was kept to the bare minimum.

FIRST DRAFT OF MAGAZINE COVER.
This is the magazine cover, I have chosen this picture because it of the eye contact the model has with the audience. It engages them with the magazine and creates a 'bond' between the reader and the image. The photo is in black and white because the film will also be, it also creates an archaic feel, because the film is set in the 60's. The iconography in the picture links in the with the film I am creating, because in the 60's everyone smoked and it had a casual, cool element to it. I have placed the image over the top of the strap-line so it can be seen as the primary issue on the page. The strap-line 'FEW' is in red so it stands out from the black and white image and appropriately attract the audience.

Fonts for magazine front cover.

All the fonts that I'm going to chose will be bold and is simple. Therefore it will not look too contemporary and will not distract from the main picture on the magazine cover.

This font I think is too modern when placing with the picture I am planning to use for my magazine cover, it is not bold enough and the contours are too smooth. This font does however follow the typical codes and conventions and will stand out to the target audience.

This font is similar to the last and is not quite as bold for a magazine cover, I think the contours are too rounded so therefore looks more 'bubble-writing' than a strap-line.

This font has a high possibility of going on the front because it is bold and will strike out to the audience effectively. My only criticism would be how the letters may not be thick enough when on the magazine cover to stand out to the extent that I want it to.

Cover development.

When taking pictures of my model I had to be careful to whether the pictures I have taken would manage to fit in appropriately with contemporary magazine structures yet still be able to explicitly show the rawness of french new wave. When dressing my model I made sure that it would mirror french new wave fashion sufficiently. She is wearing a cordial hat, her hair is straight and in a long bob, she's got a casual/smart jacket on and a stripey long top on. The stripey top is a typical stereotype of French fashion and portrays to the audience therefore that she is French. She has got skinny cut of legging/jeans on which many people wore in the 60's and would make the audience perceive her as fashion conscious. The iconography in the picture is a cigarette, in the 1960's french films the cigarette is the key item and gives the model a sense of 'casual cool'.
In this picture the model is looking at the camera in order to keep the target audience close for them to feel 'personal' with the magazine. The iconography used in the picture reflects appropriately to the time my trailer will be set. If I plan to use this as my front cover I may choose to brighten or contrast this picture however I fear it may look too modern if that is done. The model is sat on a corduroy sofa with the backing of a plain wall.

These two photos the model is not looking at the camera and engaging her audience. Although I find these picture endearing I don't think I shall be using them for any of my ancillary texts.

I do find both of these photos most compelling, although the model is not looking at the camera she looks studious and interesting, something that would allure the reader into wanting to know more about her.

Both of these photos the model is engaging with the camera. I think this will arouse the audience more so into wanting to read an article on her because it almost gives the impression that she knows they are there and she is letting them into her world.
